It's Monday. My daughter is in school and the house is empty and quiet. I haven't stitched or made anything in a while, and was pacing back and forth...a bit restless.
I have some fine vintage woven damask and waffle pique linen towels. They came from my grandparents' store and date back before the Second World War. My mother has stacks of them and a few made it here, to the States. They are quite beautiful without adornment, but also a perfect canvas for my vintage lace doilies. Some of them have holes, but I'll use them anyway. It should make no difference.
I'm aware that stitching lace to a plain background is not the culmination of creativity. But it doesn't always have to be - right? Sometimes stitching is just meditation and not being concerned with the outcome. The outcome will just be the result of the meditation and that can be interesting in itself.

is a beautiful idea!!!
ReplyDeletei love the post of your house, is a dream!!!!
just putting them all together into one cloth was a creative act...lovely. and yes, like a meditation.
ReplyDeleteI love it, thank you! I think laces would be nice on clothes, too.
ReplyDeleteLovely, and lovely linens and lace, too.
ReplyDeleteI too, do the same with some home-spun linens I got from either a flea market in Germany, or from my brother and sister-in-law, who found them in their house. Abandoned by the sellers of the house.
very pretty and a good and practical idea as well!
ReplyDeleteThats pretty much all I do, sew lace to a plain background! I love the contrast of textures. great history to your lace.
