This is the village where I'm staying right now, and thought it proper to send you all a postcard. Unfortunately Kreuztal is not that bloggable. Though there are a few pretty houses, the rest of the town is either reconstructed or never looked good to begin with. Maybe I'm also a bit hard on my hometown.
While the town itself is not pretty, the area certainly is. Many of the old houses are a style called frame work houses and well documented by Hilla and Bernd Becher.
The home I'm staying at is certainly wonderful. Flowers everywhere, holiday decorations, great company and wonderful food.
Blogging while traveling is hard. With so many habits being tossed around it seems hard to follow the routine of living, browsing, editing and blogging. Let alone thinking.

I did however want to give you one more gift inspiration. The pillows above are hand sewn and embroidered with french knots. It was of those rare projects where I followed instructions, but the process was enjoyable. Social stitching. If you want to make your own, Purlsoho has the instructions right here including how to make the french knots.
Off to some lunch and social life.
Maybe I'm kidding myself, but these french knots seems like something I could actually do and might even enjoy. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteLove the pillows. great colours.

ReplyDeleteI just past some minutes on your blog. You are very creative and you make so much things. You give me some new ideas. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYour doilies on a pillow remember me a tablecloth my mum made with the "richelieu" points in embroidery (perhaps in english it is not the same word!) She give it to me because there are some stains on it. I cut of the stains and sew it on my bedcover. It was so beautiful. I was looking for the patern of your hat... didn't find it! Can I have it, please?
Thank you
have a nice day!

Please say "hello" to the Siegerland, it's also my origin home area. So much snow there ...
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your stay! (I am going for a visit after christmas)
By the way, i love your art and your blog!
"Unfortunately Kreuztal is not that bloggable." Ha! Don't worry, it doesn't have to be. And definitely feel free to let yourself off the hook with blogging! After stressing out to find time to blog in Boston (and the recent death of my laptop last week), I'm wondering if it's best to take a blog break anytime we're on the road. We'll see if I can stay away from it during our upcoming trip to see my side of the family.
ReplyDeleteAmazing pillows, by the way! French knots rock.
Thanks everyone for your nice comments. I really appreciate that you take the time to write. The hat pattern will be available on the blog sometime next week.
ReplyDeleteThe town may not be pretty, but the house in that setting of snow certainly is!
