This is Where We Live

This Is Where We Live from 4th Estate on Vimeo.
This incredible movie was made for the 25th anniversary of the British Publishing House "4thEstate", produced by Apt Studio and Asylum Films in stop-motion over 3 weeks. Each scene was shot on a home-made dolly. If you are interested how the movie is prepared and shot, you can see time-lapse films of the different scenes here. I'm fascinated by the way these stop-motion movies are done, and I love that the concept is simple and the result very complex.

  1. Isn't it amazing how stop-motion films are becoming so popular? All of those ones with people laying down on floors and looking like they're moving through magical lands.

I think I just watched a great stop-motion music video married with design the other day (http://vimeo.com/12595779). It was awesome! The whole movement reminds me of all the clay-mation stuff that was really popular in the 80s and early 90s. ^_^

I wonder...where will they go next?

p.s. I loved some of the Oluwo's pieces you sent me! These two were my favorites: this one and this one. mmmmm, wonderful.

  4. I love this and have my self caught the stop motion bug. I wanted to make a video and it seemed the easiest way to start.

I love this one "Lost things" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwX7uEiEWx4&playnext_from=TL&videos=esSneOK8Bow and it inspired mine,

  6. Good morning ladies. Thanks all of you for your great input... I watched all the movies you mentioned...They are so inspiring. One more for you: Do you know Oren Lavie's "Morning Elegance"? It was shot in 2008 and was very popular. "Lost Things" reminds me a bit of that. The one from the NZ Book Council "Going West" is incredible, (and I love the book theme) and you listen to this beautiful voice....

@Laura: Just saw your stop motion movie. Wow. What a unique way to present your work! I was wondering how long it took you to make it, because it seems stop motion production is very time intense. Loved the idea of the little boat and anchoring your dreams. Thanks so much for sending the link.

    Enjoy your Sunday!
